  • Whitemoor Achieve YST Gold Quality Mark!

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

Earlier today, we received some very exciting news indeed... Whitemoor have been awarded the Youth Sport Trust's 'Gold Quality Mark' for their commitment to physical education (PE) and school sport.

The Quality Mark is an online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised badge of excellence for the quality of its PE and school sport. The tool supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for its development.

Judi O’Leary (Executive Headteacher at Whitemoor Academy) has commented:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Gold Quality Mark from the Youth Sport Trust, which recognises our commitment to delivering the best possible sporting experiences for the young people at our school."

“There are a whole range of educational, health and wellbeing benefits from delivering high quality PE and school sport, and we see on a regular basis that when it is delivered well it can transform the lives of all pupils.”

Schools are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold status, which reflects its efforts in using PE and school sport to raise achievement across the school. When a school is awarded the Gold Quality Mark, the Youth Sport Trust will visit the school and validate its self-review.

Alison Oliver (Chief Executive at the Youth Sport Trust) also commented:

“Congratulations to Whitemoor Academy for achieving the Youth Sport Trust Gold Quality Mark. Schools which achieve the Quality Mark share our belief in the value of high quality PE and sport, and the positive impact it has on young people’s journey through education."

“PE and school sport helps young people to live healthy and active lives and through it, helps them achieve their personal best in school and life. We are delighted to be working with thousands of schools across the country that recognise the competitive advantage this gives to their pupils.”

A massive thanks to all the staff, pupils and parents who helped Whitemoor achieve this prestigious award.

  • Tournament Result – Friday 16th March – Y5/6 High Five Netball

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

Last Friday, seven members of our Netball squad competed in a revised version of School Sport Nottingham's 'High 5' tournament.

Unlike in previous years, there were no heats to battle through; instead there were two separate finals, with only the first place team from each going through to the county version of this tournament.

Over the course of the afternoon's event, hosted by the Girls' High School,  Whitemoor played with skill, determination and flair. After some convincing wins, we made it through to the 1st and 2nd place play off…

Here we faced no other than – the Girls' High School. In what was a very tough match (not made any easier by some partisan referring!) Whitemoor recorded a narrow win, so took home the gold medal!!!

Both Miss Proud and Mrs Hall were incredibly proud of our players' achievement, especially given the fact it's the third year in a row a Whitemoor Netball team has won the tournament.

    Our Y5/6 High 5'ers were: Aiden L, Mason T, Natijah L, Sophie H, Sahnairi P, Kamara J and Nevaya P.

  • Tournament Result – Thursday 15th March – Y2 Infant Agility Festival

    Thu 15 Mar 2018

Earlier today, we took our first set of Y2 children to the Infant Agility Festival, hosted at Lee Westwood Sports Centre in Clifton.

This festival was delivered by Sports Coaching Degree Students from NTU, with the aim of the event centred around providing pupils with an introduction to multi-skills games.

The format of the Infant Agility Festival included pupils taking part in relay and obstacle races, similar to the Sportshall Athletics format; along with field events such as speed bounce, throwing, long jump and balance testing.

Whitemoor's team of thirty pupils split into smaller groups throughout the course of the afternoon and rotated around the activities in a circuit style; with the emphasis being, first and foremost, on enjoyment for all.

It was fair to say that every single one of the Y2 children involved had a great afternoon, in what was their initial experience of inter-school sport.

    Today's Y2 Infant Agility team was made up of: Bilal A, Hakem A, Aiza A, Sophie B, Asari B, Elijah B, Amelia B, Alyssia D, Werner E, Teejai G, Fatima H, Ola H, Eyul K, Isabella L, Zayne M, Kevin M, Amin N, Megan P, Kaiden P, Michal R, Ky'ran S, Aman S, Reda S, Naquarn S, Jacub S, Nerome T, Mia T, Ella-Rae W and Khushi W.

  • Tournament Result – Wednesday 14th March – Y5/6 Basketball C.V.L. Heats

    Wed 14 Mar 2018

Early this evening, Whitemoor competed in the first of their two Basketball Central Venue League heats - doing so against 3 local(ish) schools.

Following a sluggish start in our first game, our Y5/6 Basketballers ended up falling to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Southwark (10-12).

Thankfully, our players didn't not let this disappointment linger long as they won their next game 6-4 (against Ambleside primary).

By the time our third game came around, Team Whitemoor were displaying the skill and effort we have come to expect in these sorts of tournaments - recording a convincing 10-4 victory against Glade Hill.

Well done to our players for winning two of their three matches. Next week's heat will hopefully bring even more success!

Our Y5/6 CVL Basketball team consisted of: Jayden R, Mason T, Aiden L, Elhadi M, Jacob S, Brian D, Natijah L, Sahnairi P, Nevaya P, Kamara J and Amelia B.

  • Tournament Result – Monday 12th March – KS2 Boccia Championships Finals

    Mon 12 Mar 2018

Yesterday, the B Team from the KS2 Boccia heats traveled back to Harvey Hadden Sports Village - this time to compete in the grand finals!

From an early stage, it was clear to see that the other schools who qualified for the finals were of a very high quality, and so the games were a lot tougher than our players had experienced before.

Although Whitemoor did not progress to the finals bracket of this tournament (as a result of some narrow losses) the team performed fantastically well throughout. We were extremely proud of all the boys and girls involved!

Our KS2 Boccia team for these finals consisted of: Marques S, Sarah H, Keltoum K, Lewis N and Ali C.

  • Tournament Result – Wednesday 7th March – Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics Semi Finals

    Wed 07 Mar 2018

Following their success in the first round of the Sportshall Athletics tournament, Whitemoor's Y3/4 team were invited to take part in the semi-finals, held at Harvey Hadden.

It was clear to see from the word go that all 11 of our boys and all 11 of our girls had their hearts set on securing a place in the next round (a feat Whitemoor hadn't managed for many years).

After a grueling morning of running, throwing and jumping events; our budding young athletes discovered they'd scored enough points to finish in the top three - so would be going to grand finals on the 29th March. A massive congratulations!

    Today's Sportshall Athletics team was made up of: Sam W, Reuben K, Martell E, Keenan D, Abdullah T, Harley J, Shayaan M, Tyrai W, Zak P, Blake R, Lewis C, Ticianny M, Mya I, Katie A, Minky D, Doha A, Glennisha B, Kuleni S, Shay A, Sidrah R, Alyssia N and Hamnah S.

  • Tournament Result – Monday 5th March – Y5 Mega Festival

    Mon 05 Mar 2018

This afternoon, a group of very eager Year 5 children got chance to compete in another of School Sport Nottingham's 'Mega Fests,' held once again at Harvey Hadden Sports Village.

The festival's emphasis was on fun and enjoyment, and for our pupils to 'have a go' regardless of their shape, size or ability.

Whitemoor's boys and girls  started the afternoon by taking part in a mass warm-up, followed by a rotation around different sports and activities, including: handball, urban hockey, new age curling and relay races.

Not only did the 'Mega Fest' act as a great opportunity to engage more of our pupils in inter-school competition; it also helped them develop a love of physical activity and sport.

Our Y5 Mega Festival team consisted of: Mattie C, Sandeep S, Sufyan Z, Elizabeth L and Magda G.
