  • Tournament Result – Monday 27th June – Y5/6 Badminton

    Mon 27 Jun 2016

Yesterday, we took part in the School Sport Nottingham Badminton tournament - for the first time in nearly four years! Having won this event in both 2011 and 2012, expectations were set high.

The boys and girls representing Whitemoor played brilliantly and showed great team work, despite limited practise; the boys even more so as one player dropped out the day before due to a secondary school transition event.

After a series of round robin matches, points were added together to give final totals… Unfortunately, Whitemoor's combined total was only high enough to place us in fifth position.

A big well done to the boys and girls involved though as they competed with determination and maximum effort throughout the tournament.

Our Y5/6 Badminton team consisted of: Lynden J, Jawaad S, Mia G and Savita A.

Meaning we qualified comfortably for the semi-finals (finishing on 9 points, and with a goal difference of +20). As winners of Group A, we were pitted against runners up of Group B – the talented Ambleside team. The result was as follows:

    Whitemoor Academy 1 – 0 Ambleside Primary

    Lynden J

After overcoming Ambleside, at the third attempt this year, we waited to discover who'd be our opponent in the finals… It turned out to be a rematch against the runners up from our group – Woodborough. This time it ended:

Whitemoor Academy 4 – 4 Woodborough Woods CofE Primary

    Lynden J

Therefore the game went to penalties. Not only this, but it was sudden death format from the first kick…

Lynden put any bad memories from his previous penalty miss to bed by powering his effort straight down the middle. However, Woodborough scored with an excellent penalty of their own. Luke replied by burying our second kick passed the opposition keeper with ease. Elliot then stepped up to try and save the next Woodborough penalty, which he did with a fantastic block!

Our players celebrated the fact they had won the first ever University of Nottingham Futsal Tournament, and that they'd become one of the most successful Under 11 Football team in Whitemoor's history. What an effort from all the boys!

  • Tournament Result – Thursday 23rd June – Y6 This Girl Can Festival

    Thu 23 Jun 2016

On Thursday 23rd, a select group of girls from Year 6 took part in the 'This Girl Can' festival - held at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre.

The girls had opportunity to play three different sports, which were Handball (led by pupils from Trinity School); Hockey (supervised by pupils from Nottingham Academy) and Dodgeball (ran by pupils from the Emmanuel School).

Not only did the girls have a great time experiencing these sports; they also demonstrated fantastic teamwork skills throughout their games – making us adults incredibly proud.

Well done to the Whitemoor Academy girls, who were: Molly P, Freya W, Sarah S, Chardonae H, Charntay G, Zahra H, Chloe W, Sammi W, Sophie C and Heena A.

  • A Second School Games Gold for Whitemoor!

Wed 15 Jun 2016 Mr Bevington

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme, launched in 2012, which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and in the community. Registered schools, such as Whitemoor, can apply annually through an application form, which is marked by their local School Games Organiser (SGO).

The application is then graded as either bronze, silver, or gold…

We are delighted to inform you that we have, once again, been graded at the gold standard! This is a fantastic achievement, which helps evidence the impact Mr Jackson, Miss Raquel and the wider PE and Sport team are having on the children of Whitemoor.

What's more, our SGO (Nick Robb) left the following comment when approving our application: 'An excellent provision by Whitemoor once again, and they are leading the way in Nottingham with an excellent PE, Sport and Physical Activity offer to all their students.'

We look forward to applying for the Gold School Games Mark come 2017!
