Music (Charanga)

Our Music curriculum is provided via the Charanga learning platform.

In music lessons, children have the opportunity to experiment with both technology and a variety of musical instruments to create music. They develop an understanding of various musical genres and vocabulary and as they progress through school they will be able to both compose and critique music. A specialist music teacher helps to ensure all this is provided with a high-quality standard of teaching.

  • Through specialist teaching, all children will be given the opportunity to learn an instrument during their time at Whitemoor as well as exploring other instruments and music terminology.
  • We use the Charanga! scheme of work to enusre that our curriculum is progressive and builds both knowledge and skills.
  • All children have music lessons with a specialist teacher during their time at Whitemoor, this is usually 60 minutes per week for at least 4 years.
  • Music is also celebrated through singing assemblies, concerts and performances (such as the nativity, or year 6 show, or 'Christmas in the City') where knowledge children may have learnt in music will be linked to songs they are singing/performing.
