Home learning for Monday the 5th July 2021

Phonics-
Please only do the work set for the group your child is in. There has been short stories uploaded this week if you would like to read these with your child to help their sentence reading.

Mrs Renton and Miss Howes group:

Today we are learning the set 2 special friend 'ir' which has the rhyme ‘ir ir whirl and twirl’. Focus on reading the sound ir in a word by reading the sounds and blending them together to make a word. Look at the special friends and focus on recognising them in a word. Practise reading 4 letter words in at the revisit section in the video below.
https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/8OXzwaYP/IucjcxDM

After reading the sound in words, sound out the word to spell in the words you hear. Pinch the sounds on your fingers. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/0sAeaMoq/YuTvBLMh

Finally write a simple sentence with your child for example, Whirl and twirl or The girl fell in the dirt. Encourage your child to use finger spaces between their words to make it clear to read. Make sure your child is forming their letters correctly and making them the same size and in the correct direction.

Miss Turner Group 1:

Today we are learning the sound igh with the rhyme “igh igh fly high.” Please watch the lesson below: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/S4aev7Fz/yrJKTpRK

Next in the reading lesson, read those special friends within a word. After the sound lesson you will need a paper and pencil to spell the words you hear. Have a go at writing the sounds you hear in a word by pinching the sounds on your Fred fingers.
https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/Bs20gKz0/ZmhXdVJM

Finally see if your child can use their sounds to write the sentence: A night light. Ensure they are writing the letters in the right direction and use small letters to make it clear to read.

Miss Turner Group 2:

Today we are learning the sound ng. Please watch the lesson below:
https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/tsezX9GT/58lsHacp

Now you have learnt the sound ng were going to have a go at reading sounds within a word by blending them together. Watch the video below to practise your sounds in green words.
https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/vqOwsnEE/R5lO2Noj

Next have a go at writing the 3 letter words in the video. Write down each sound one letter at a time to spell the word. Focus on your letters being the correct direction and the same size to make it clear to read. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/qxuG83UA/28h9Iedc

Maths-

This week we are learning in Maths the Topic ‘On the move’. Watch the lesson below ‘On the move, Week 1, Session 1’.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/on-the-move-week-1/

Revisit the idea of more and fewer. Look at the concept that more is bigger and fewer is less. In your house get a bucket or bowl and some of your favourite toys. First, place a number of toys inside the container. Then, ask a friend to add more toys or take some out while you watch. Can you predict how many toys will be in the bucket now? Encourage your child to have a guess depending on whether there is a lot or a little. Ask them whether they think there be more or fewer.

Check how many there is altogether. Ask your child how many more or how many less. Maybe they could have a go at writing this down in a number sentence 5+4=9 or 10-3=7.

You may also want to find what is one more and one less by counting on or counting back.

Topic-

This week we have a new topic. We will be learning about Journeys for the rest of the term and our focus for this week is pirates and pirate ships. Today we would like you to turn yourself into a pirate. Watch the video on CBeebies about how pirates used to talk and see if you can join in too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/my-story-pirate-talk

Talk about different pirate names and think of a name you would have if you were a pirate like Swashbuckle or Blackbeard. Design yourself as a pirate on paper and draw what you would wear. Can you label what you would have as a pirate? Maybe you would have a pirate hat or a peg leg or a hook for a hand.

Our rhyme this week is ‘The big ship sails on the Ally, Ally, Oh’. Here is the link to watch and you can join in our pirate rhyme by singing along at home. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-the-big-ship-sails-on-the-ally-ally-oh/zkpp7nb

Thank you for all of your fantastic work you have done. Keep sending it in!

Prompt your child to arrange their set in the same way. Compare the finished arrangements to see if they look the same. Repeat with your child taking on the role of leader. Add a barrier. Give verbal instructions as you arrange your blocks behind the barrier. Your child should follow your instructions to try to recreate the same arrangement. Once the models are complete, remove the barrier and compare.

If you do not have Lego or blocks you can use any objects that may make a picture or pattern such as different coloured objects.

Topic-

Recap all you have learnt this week about churches in our community. What are they used for and what events do churches hold?

Discuss how the buildings are different to other building such as a school or a shop or house.

Now use paint, or colouring pencils or arts and crafts and see if you can create a stained-glass window. What pictures would you put on it if it were going in your house.

Draw your favourite things in a stained-glass window.

Thank you for all of your fantastic work you have done. Keep sending it in!

Now go on a bear hunt around your house. Ask the adult to hide the bear in several spots around the house or garden and then ask them for clues using positional language in questions. E.g. Is it under the bed? Is it behind the shed? Is it inside the fridge?
Then swap over and get the adult to ask the questions and you give the answers.

Topic-

We are continuing our RE week by looking at what events Christians may celebrate in a church. You can find videos of different celebrations on the CBeebies Lets celebrate page such as Easter and my first wedding.

Talk to your child about the different reasons people may go to a church for example, weddings, baptisms and to pray. Can they talk about events they may celebrate and how these are similar or different? For example, how is Eid and Christmas different? How are weddings similar and different in a temple or in a church?
Ask your child to make a model of a church this may be using recycling boxes or using Lego or wooden blocks. Or you may have toy figures that you want to re-enact a wedding scene with.

We hope you are all well and if you need anything please let us know.

The teddy is in between the doll and Lego. The teddy is behind the sofa.
Then swap over and ask them to hide it and you tell them where it is modelling the full sentences.

Can they look around their house to find any other objects to describe? The toaster is on top of the counter, the clothes are inside the wardrobe.
