  • Whitemoor Achieves afPE Quality Mark!

    Thu 17 Dec 2015

On Thursday 17th, we received some very exciting news in regard to the afPE Quality Mark for Physical Education and Sport…

The assessment panel considered our application, together with the feedback from a validation visit, and were delighted to award us the Quality Mark with Distinction for: ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in Physical Education and Sport’.

This is a hugely prestigious award, which acts as a powerful way of celebrating success. The afPE Quality Mark recognises, through a succinct self-review and evaluation process, the strength and quality of physical education and sport in our school. It raises the profile of the subject and the school, both locally and nationally, and promotes the high quality work that is being undertaken on a day to day basis.

Obviously, we are all very proud of this award – especially as we are the first school or college in Nottingham to achieve it, and the first in the whole of Nottinghamshire (342 schools and colleges) to do so with distinction!

A massive thank you to all who have made this dream possible.

  • Tournament Result – Thursday 10th December – Y5/6 Basketball Finals

    Thu 10 Dec 2015

On Thursday, our Y5/6 Basketball players took to the courts at Lee Westwood Sports Centre again - this time to compete in the City Schools' Finals.

At this advanced stage of the tournament, the teams we faced were a lot tougher, but every member of Whitemoor's team raised their game in an attempt to match the increased challenge.

Despite a promising start, we lost our first game to Old Basford 4-8. However, we followed this with a 12-6 win against Heathfield, a 6-6 draw with Burford and a 10-4 win against Glade Hill. This meant we finished in second place in our group,  so qualified for the semi-finals…

Unfortunately, in this match we lost to Robin Hood (the eventual winners) by a basket (4-6). However, we still got the the chance to compete in a third/fourth place playoff.

The game against Sycamore was very tough and, after a 10-10 draw, went to extra time. Thankfully, we won the game in the last 3 seconds of this period (as result of a wonderful shot from Solomon) and so gained the bronze medal.

Although we didn't qualify for the County Finals, we certainly enjoyed our performances and walked away with our heads held high – especially as this was our third medal in a week!

Well done to all the girls and boys involved, who were: Glenn S, Solomon S, Oskar D, Luke W, Tanaka N, Tino C, Ajay S, Kamiya L, Savita A, Jamie H and Grace A.

  • Competition Result – Wednesday 9th December – Y1/2 Gymnastics

    Wed 09 Dec 2015

After school today, six of our Y1/2 Gymnastics team ventured up to Ellis Guilford to take part in the annual Key Stage One competition.

The team had been training extremely hard and overcame early nerves when it was their time to perform. Each and every one of our Gymnasts showed great courage and carried out their routine with a big smile (however nervous they felt inside!).

After scores were collected, the judges announced that Whitemoor had gained enough points to finish in 2nd place so would receive a silver medal. In fact they only missed out on the gold medal by 0.03 points. What a great performance!

The reaction from teachers and parents showed how very proud of the children's achievements everyone was.

Our Y1/2 Gymnastics team was made up of: Fallon T, Mya I, Abdullah T, Kuleni S, Destiny T and Mia M.

  • Tournament Result – Monday 7th December – Y3/4 Handball

    Mon 07 Dec 2015

On Monday 7th, we took part in the first ever Y3/4 Handball tournament, held at Nottingham Trent University.

We played against some very able teams, but showed great skill and perseverance - managing to battle our way to the final. Here we faced off against Ambleside.

This match ended in a 6-6 draw, so extra time had to be played. Only 1 additional minute was planned, but it did not matter as we scored a couple of vital goals to clinch the gold medal! A massive well done to all girls and boys who represented Whitemoor so well.

    Our Y3/4 Handballers were: Kamara J, Amelia B, Jessica S, Aaliyah B, Kayden L, Jacob H, Jayden R, Ramadan R, Brian D, Mason T, J'Adore P, Carnell T and Troy F.

  • Competition Result – Wednesday 2nd December – Y5/6 Dance Championships

    Wed 02 Dec 2015

This evening, our Y5/6 Dance Troupe took part in the School Sport Nottingham 'Championships' - where they competed against 12 other primaries.

All the girls and boys in our team had been training hard after school (for many months); thankfully overcoming any last minute nerves when showcasing their amazing routine during their time on stage.

The synchronicity and flair the Dance Troupe performed with clearly paid off, as the judges awarded Whitemoor enough points to finish in silver medal position. In fact, we were very close to beating Southwark's gold medal winning score.

Well done to all the children involved – your teamwork was outstanding!

    Our medal winning team consisted of: Georgia N, Kamiya L, Gloria L, Beth K, Teegan A, Mia G, Charntay G, Shantay F, Peyten C, Millie G, Amirah A and Ja'Nai S.
