  • Tournament Result – Thursday 29th March – Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics Finals

    Thu 29 Mar 2018

After two gruelling qualifiers, which started way back in February, our Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics team travelled to Harvey Hadden earlier - ready to take part in the grand finals of this event.

It was fair to say that our team were a little nervous, especially given the fact they were the first Sportshall Athletics team to reach the finals in many, many years!

Once the initial nerves had been overcome, Whitemoor competed admirably in a range of events (sprints, relays, long jump, vertical jump, chest push, javelin etc.). However, the other schools which they were competing against were of a much higher standard.

When the finals points were tallied, it was clear to see that Milford, Southwark, Old Basford and St Augustine's had finished above Whitemoor. We were still very proud of the children though, both in terms of how they performed on the day and how well they'd done to get this far.

    Our Sportshall Athletics finalists consisted of: Ticianny M, Mya I, Katie A, Minky D, Doha A, Glennisha B, Kuleni S, Shay A, Sidrah R, Alyssia N, Hamnah S, Sam W, Reuben K, Martell E, Keenan D, Abdullah T, Harley J, Shayaan M, Tyrai W, Zak P, Blake R and Lewis C.

  • Tournament Result – Wednesday 28th March – Y5/6 Basketball C.V.L. Finals

    Wed 28 Mar 2018

For the third year in a row, our Y5/6 Basketball Team qualified for the finals of the Central Venue League, which was held once again at Ellis Guilford.

Like last year, there were no knockout matches – instead Whitemoor played three games back to back (against Nottingham Academy and the other qualifiers from our heats: Southwark and Scotholme).

In the first of these games, Whitemoor started like a flash. Although their enthusiasm sometimes got the better of them, our players managed to overcome Nottingham Academy 8-5.

Next up were our SHINE Multi Academy Trust friends, Scotholme Primary. In what was an incredibly skillful and hard fought game, Scotholme inflicted a 6-4 defeat on Whitemoor.

Our final game pitted us against a regular opponent, Southwark. To guarantee a medal Whitemoor knew they had to win the match, which they thankfully did (8-6).

When all the points were totaled at the end, Whitemoor were delighted to find out that they'd finished in silver medal position. A massive well done to all 11 players for their superb efforts on the night.

Also, a massive thanks to all the parents, guardians, ex-pupils and staff who came to show their support over the three nights which the league was held. We think Whitemoor's crowd was 25 strong at one point!

Our Basketball team for 'Finals Night' were: Nevaya P, Sahnairi P, Sophie H, Kamara J, Jayden R, Brian D, Mason T, Aiden L, Elhadi M, Natijah L and Jacob S.

  • Tournament Result – Thursday 22nd March – Y2 Infant Agility Festival

    Thu 22 Mar 2018

Yesterday afternoon, we took another class full of Y2 children to the Infant Agility Festival, again hosted at Lee Westwood Sports Centre.

Like last week, the festival was delivered by first year NTU Sports Coaching Degree Students, with the aim of the event remaining the same: to provide pupils with an introduction to multi-skills activities.

The format of the festival included pupils taking part in field events such as speed bounce, throwing, long jump and balance testing; as well as relay and obstacle races, similar to the Sportshall Athletics format.

Once again, our team of thirty was split into smaller groups throughout the festival, rotating around the different competitive activities and games; however the focus of these activities centered firmly on participation and fun.

It was clear to see that all of our Y2 children had a great afternoon, in what was their first taste of inter-school sport.

    This week's Y2 Infant Agility team consisted of: Aakash A, Ozair A, Mohammed A, Ateeb A, Shiloh B, Krisha B, Abi-Lea B, Oliver B,  Anaye C, Jayden C, Ahman D, Malachi E, Sukainah F, Arnelas J, Ava J, Aaliyah L, Tanishka M, Zahra M, Kaid M, Remaneiice M, Leo M, Archit N, Damian N, Chiamaka O, Rayne P, Karampreet R, Hassan S, Mustafa T, Niall T and Leila W.

  • Tournament Result – Wednesday 21st March – Y5/6 Basketball C.V.L. Heats

    Wed 21 Mar 2018

Yesterday, long after school had finished, our Y5/6 Basketball team took to the courts at Ellis Guilford Sports Centre, ready for the second round of CVL heats.

Our players were fully aware that only the top 3 schools would qualify for the finals (in a weeks time) and therefore 3 schools would be eliminated by the end of the night!

In the first of the round robin games, Whitemoor came up against another SHINE school - Scotholme primary. Scotholme had clearly been practising lots, with their team winning 9-8, in what was a superb game of basketball.

The next game saw Whitemoor play their victors from the previous heat - Southwark. This week was a different story however, with our team playing fantastically well, leading to a hugely impressive 18-9 win.

The last game pitted us against Brocklewood. After some initial nervy moments, Whitemoor came away with a 14-4 victory.

These 2 wins, and the 2 from last week, meant we had gained enough points to qualify for the grand finals on the 28th March! Well done to all involved.

    Tonight's Y5/6 Basketball team consisted of: Jayden R, Mason T, Aiden L, Elhadi M, Jacob S, Brian D, Natijah L, Jahkyi C, Sahnairi P, Nevaya P, Kamara J and Sophie H.

    5. Whitemoor Academy 0 – 2 Fernwood Juniors

By the end of the semi-final stage, Whitemoor had collected 6 points; putting us in fourth place, some way behind the top two teams.

Obviously, this meant we were unable to qualify for the finals for a second year running. However, the boys should be very proud of their efforts. Our attention now turns back to the final two league games of the season.

  • Competition Result – Monday 19th March – Y5/6 Climbing

    Mon 19 Mar 2018

Yesterday evening, a number of our Year 5 pupils were invited to take part in the annual Hollygirt Inter-School Climbing event, hosted at the Climbing Centre in Basford. The event is now in its fourth year, with Whitemoor taking part for the third consecutive year.

Like in previous years, the other teams present were a mix of private schools (Hollygirt and Nottingham High) and state schools (Southwark and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour).

For a number of the children from private schools, climbing is a weekly hobbie, and so the competition was of a very tough standard. While Whitemoor did not get into a medal position, every one of our climbers displayed true effort and achieved some great scores.

Our Y5 Climbing teams (three in total) were made up of: Finnley G, Harley P, Djourn M, Anas I, Natijah L, Italee P, Zakiah R, Christine S, Farrah M, Jaylah C, Inez W, Magda G, Michaela C and Leigha S.
