  • Tournament Result – Thursday 8th December – Y3/4 Handball

    Thu 08 Dec 2016

Earlier today, our Y3/4 Handball team competed in the City Schools' tournament, attempting to replicate the success of last year's team by achieving the gold medal. High pressure indeed!

The competition posed by the other schools involved was fierce, and Whitemoor knew they had an afternoon full of tough games. Thankfully, we managed to make it through to the semi-finals by winning each of our five group games.

In this knock-out match, we played Southwark, who proved to be extremely tricky opponents. However, Whitemoor came away with a narrow win and so qualified for the next round…

In the finals we faced Fernwood, who had also won every game so far. The two teams were evenly matched and exchanged points right until the end, where we managed to hold them off – winning by only 1 point! As well as earning the gold medal, Whitemoor also earned a spot at the County Finals later on in the year.

A great win for our players – and our second successive year winning the Handball tournament!

    Our Y3/4 Handball team consisted of: Maxi K, Aliny T, Inez W, Vina R, Mariah-Lace A, Christine S, Shalom-Chris O, Hugo K, Travae R, Mustafa K, Christopher V, Dijourn M and Peter S.

  • Competition Result – Wednesday 7th December – Y5/6 Key Step Gymnastics

    Wed 07 Dec 2016

Yesterday evening, some of our Year 5/6 Gymnasts traveled to Ellis Guilford for the Key Step event. This event is always a fantastic one to watch, so we were delighted to see so many parents, carers, brothers and sisters in attendance.

The competition was, as usual, very tough and the level of skill on show was truly amazing. After competing in a range of floor and apparatus based routines, the top five scores among each team were added together to decide which schools would earn medals.

Although Whitemoor did not make it into the top three, the children must be praised for completing their routines with great precision and poise. Well done to everyone who competed on the night.

    The Y5/6 Gymnastics team consisted of: Teegan A, Natasha C, Mille G, Nevaya P, J’Adore P and Sahnairi P.

  • Tournament Result – Monday 5th December – Y6 Mega Festival

    Mon 05 Dec 2016

Yesterday afternoon, the first of three 'Mega Fest' events took place – with Y6 pupils being the first ones to experience this new and exciting competition format.

The focus of today's event was on having as much fun as possible, whilst trying new and different sports.

Lots of exciting games were played, and all the children who took part had an amazing time. What's more, they represented Whitemoor extremely well throughout the afternoon.

Our Y6 Mega Fest team consisted of: Faizan M, Simon W, Sophie B, Lauren F, Daniel T, Hooriya M and Mason W.

Despite winning 4 out of 5 games, and scoring 14 goals in the process, we failed to qualify for the finals of this year's competition.

It is worth adding that the format changed this time around, with no semi-finals between the winners and runners up of groups A and B. The boys didn't let this get to them though, and achieved the following result in their 3rd/4th play-off match.

    Whitemoor Academy 4 – 0 Southwark Primary

All the adults in attendance were really proud of the skill and teamwork Whitemoor displayed throughout the afternoon. A big well done to the boys for securing a medal position in the University of Nottingham Futsal Tournament for the second year in a row.

  • Tournament Result – Thursday 1st December – Y5/6 Basketball Finals

    Thu 01 Dec 2016

This afternoon, our Y5/6 Basketball players took to the courts of Harvey Hadden again – this time to try and claim the City Schools' title. The competition was a lot tougher this time around, but every member of the team dug in deeper to try and achieve our end goal.

First up we faced the winners from two years ago, South Wilford. After some nail biting moments, we scored in the last few minutes to secure a 12-10 win. We then went on to beat Blessed Robert Widmerpool 6-2 and Brocklewood 15-1. This meant we finished first place in our group and qualified for the semi finals…

In this match we faced an athletic Fernwood team, who pushed us all the way to the wire. Thankfully we came away with a 10-9 victory, so qualified for the grand finals…

The game pitted us against local rivals Heathfield, who proved to be top class opposition – beating us 6-14 in the end. Although we didn't qualify for the County Finals, we finished one place higher than last year, and represented Whitemoor magnificently throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to all those involved, who were: Harvinder D, Daniel P, Romario L, Mason N, Castel B, Brian D, Megan M, Shania B, Amirah A, Ciara H and Millie G.
