Tournament Result – Monday 28th September – Y5/6 Quicksticks Hockey
On Monday 28th, the School Sport Nottingham calendar started with the Quicksticks Hockey tournament, hosted at Highfields Hockey Centre.
Whitemoor were in a tough group - playing Southwalk in the first game. The match ended with a 5-0 defeat, but this didn’t affect the team's positive attitude. In fact the loss seemed to motivate the children and they gained confidence with every game that followed.
After producing some fantastic passing and many amazing goals, they won every other match and qualified for the finals.
In the final we faced Southwalk once again. However, the team’s confidence could not be shaken - and they played with skill and flare. Southwalk seemed shocked at the improvement Whitemoor had made and the game finished in a draw, meaning...
Sudden Death Penalties!
The nerves the Whitemoor team must have been feeling could not be seen as they prepared for the penalty shoot out. Southwalk's first penalty was a perfect shot, but our penalty matched this. The second Southwalk penalty glanced the right post and Whitemoor knew they had a chance to win the tournament. Whitemoor stepped up and, without a second thought, powered a shot into the back of the net!
This victory meant we came away with the first gold medals of the year. We were very proud of the positive attitude, teamwork, maturity and strength the children showed - and highlights the amazing work they have put into training. A sign of good things to come!
Well done to those involved in today's Quicksticks event: Oskar D, Sam S, Jamie H, Shantay F, Grace A, Ajay S and Savita A.
