Week Commencing 1st June

Hello Year 6, parents and carers,

We hope that you have had a fantastic half term. Here is your work for the coming week. Remember not all of it needs a computer to do the work, for example, you don’t need a computer to access any of the English work this week from Tuesday (except to read the tasks). Each week we are also including some transition activities and some resources that may help with questions that you have about moving to secondary school. This website : Secondary School Transition has lots of information about transition to secondary school that you might find useful.

As always, we love to see your work so please email us on uks2@whitemoor.nottingham.sch.uk

Have fun and hopefully we will see you soon!

  • Transition:
  • As you move to secondary school, it’s a time to say goodbye to primary school and hello to lots of new faces and exciting times ahead. So, it’s important that you remember all of your favourite memories. Today’s transition activity is to create a drawing of a special memory (or a few special memories) and frame it in a photo frame that you’ve drawn. You might choose to draw a favourite lesson, a funny moment with friends, a school trip, a moment you were proud of or something completely different. Here are some ideas of photo frames: home made photo frame ideas. Again, we’d love to see what you do.
  • General activities: Aim to spend 10 minutes on TT Rockstars, Seneca, SpellingShed and SPAG.com.

Friday

  • Maths: TTRockstars, SENECA Maths,
  • English:

Leaflet Lesson 4: Finish your Leaflet. Final tasks:

    1. You could include a Fact Box of fascinating details that you haven’t included yet. Maybe include some information about the inventor (you)!
    2. Destinations. Where can your vehicle go? Maybe it can travel to other planets or universes. How long will it take to get there?
    3. Finally, make your leaflet look as appealing as you can. Have you included colour, neat handwriting, lots of great language?
    4. Email us your work, we’d love to see it (you could attach a link if you’ve done it on a laptop or take a picture and upload it if you did it on paper)

Please send them to:  uks2@whitemoor.nottingham.sch.uk

  • Art/Photography: View from Lockdown:  Finish your project.
  •  Transition:

As you move to secondary school, it is important that you think about what you’re looking forward to and also, think about the things that you’re worried about – most people have a few concerns when they move. Draw the outline of a face and cut it out.

On one side of the face, draw the things about secondary school life that you are looking forward to e.g. new friends, clubs, lessons, food;

On the other side of the face draw the things that what you are worried or nervous about e.g. homework, friends, finding your way around.

Underneath the face write any questions you have.

You might want to keep these to yourself but if you’d like to share, please email us and we will try to answer your questions. Older brothers or sisters will also be able to help you with their experiences – and also your parents/carers. In the next few weeks your secondary schools will also be in touch with you and they’ll definitely be able to answer your questions.

Week Commencing 18th May

Hello Year 6, parents and carers,

We hope that you had a great 'not SATs week' last week! This is usually the time in Year 6 when we would start to think about our end of year show and begin auditions and rehearsals. While we can't do that at the moment, perhaps you might like to learn a song or choreograph a dance to perform for the people you live with. Be sure to send us a picture if you do!

Here’s your work for the week. Remember it doesn't matter if you can't finish everything and if you have things that you want to continue working on from last week that's absolutely fine.

Week Commencing 11th May

Hello Year 6, parents and carers J,

We hope that you have had a fantastic weekend and Bank Holiday and enjoyed celebrating VE Day!

This week would have been SATs week – can you believe it? Don’t worry, we aren’t setting SATs tests this week!

We know that some of you have been worried about secondary school so we just want to let you know that we have had conference phone calls with all of your secondary schools over the last 2 weeks. We've told them lots about you all as well as how fantastic you are and they're really excited to meet you when you start  in year 7. Lots of the schools will be in touch with you directly in the next few weeks and we know that some are even hoping to organise virtual tours of their schools to help you to settle in!

This activity from the BBC may help answer some of your questions about starting secondary school as well: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zj2grj6

Here’s your work for next week and thank you again for continuing to work so hard in these extremely difficult times. Please remember that it doesn't matter if you don't finish everything on the timetable, there's a lot there. We miss you all!

Week Commencing 4th May

Hello Year 6, parents and carers,

We hope that you have had an amazing weekend and are ready to continue with your home learning. From this week, we will be changing the way that we present your home learning activities. Firstly, we will be placing the current week’s work at the top of the page, which will make it easier for you to find. Secondly, we will be placing your activities into a weekly timetable, meaning that you will have tasks that need to be completed every day. These tasks will include maths, English and a foundation lesson every day. Finally, there will be some extra activities for you to complete at any time throughout the week. Thank you for continuing to work so hard in these extremely difficult times.
