The Year 4 Team

Hello Year 4, parents and carers,

We hope you have had a nice weekend. Apologies for the difficulties accessing White Rose, this has now been fixed. As last week, there are activities that are expected to be completed daily which are listed at the top and we have sectioned the week’s work into days. There are some fun extra bits at the bottom which can be completed at any time. The activities which are not online are highlighted in green. If you have any questions about the work, please email lks2@whitemoor.nottingham.sch.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We would love to see the work you are completing. You could email some pictures to the email address, or upload pictures to twitter and tag @Whitemoorschool. We hope you have a fantastic week!   • Follow the home learning link to the PE and Physical Activity page Complete the challenge for Week 7 (https://www.whitemooracademy.co.uk/pe-physical-activity/)
  • Complete activities on Times Table Rockstars. Class 10 won by only 19 points this week, the closest its been so far! Who will win the battle between class 9 and 10 this week? Remember to challenge your friends and teachers on the Rockslam section!
  • Continue working through sessions on Seneca.
  • Continue to practice spellings on Spelling Shed.

Extras

  • Geography: Have a look at the different flags of the countries in the UK-Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Then look at the Union Jack (UK flag) design your own flag for the UK-try and take parts of each countries flag.
  • Science: Solid, liquid and gases house hunt. Make a list for each category of things in your house. If you are struggling these are some ideas to get you started: water, air, brick, soil, ice cubes, oil, milk, wood, coffee, water vapour from the kettle
  • Art: Use a mirror in your house to have a good at drawing a self portrait. Try not to make it up as you go along but look carefully and copy what you see in the mirror. What about trying to draw a portrait of someone else in your house? If they won’t stay still you could always use a picture of someone if that is easier!?

Watch the video, then complete the worksheet.  (You don’t need to print the worksheet off, completing it on paper is fine!)
  • English: Make a list of 10 names; they can be people you know. Write a sentence about each of those people that include a preposition (location/place or time). Eg. Mrs Cartwright is hoovering behind the sofa. Miss Cooke is next to the telephone waiting for a call. Challenge – write a second sentence about them using a pronoun instead of their name. Eg. Miss Hardy is at home writing reports. She is excited to give them to the parents of Class 9.

 

Tuesday

  • English: Write a letter to a famous person of your choice. Tell them why you are writing to them, ask them some questions and set it out as a letter would be.
  • Optional Extra - Today would have been Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday – find out about who she was and why the new hospital has been named after her. Create some art or a news report all about her and upload it to our Twitter or Facebook.

  • Have a go at these Maths challenges https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/problem-solving - the ‘Cuddly Toy Sale’ and ‘Going Shopping Problem Solving’ will help practice what you have been learning this week.
  • Geography: Can you find Nottingham on a map of the UK? What are the capital cities of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? What major river runs through England’s capital city? What major river runs through Nottingham?
  • Science: Try an activity where you melt a solid to a liquid – maybe melt some chocolate (you could make some rice crispy cakes) How does the chocolate behave differently as a liquid compared to a solid? Think of 3 food items that can be changed from a solid to a liquid. Can they all go back to being a solid?
  • Art: Get some magazine or newspaper pictures and words and create a collage all about you. Include things you like, colours, words that are important to you – you can include photographs too if you have them.

  • Make something creative out of a household item. You could paint some rocks, make a fizzy pop bottle flower planter or rocket, for example. If you do, ask an adult to upload a picture to Twitter or tag ‘Whitemoor Academy’ on Facebook so we can see what you have made.
  • Complete activities on TTRockstars – you have been set some activities. There is also a battle between Class 9 and Class 10 to see who can get the most points!
  • Complete activities on Spelling Shed
  • Read every day 
  • Write a book review of one of the books you have read. Maybe you could start a 'Book Review Journal.'
