Hello Year 2!

We hope that you are all well and keeping safe at home.

Below are your tasks for this week. Just like last week there are activities to be completed daily as well as some general activities. The activities which are not reliant on technology are written in green. Maths - White Rose Maths – I can write multiplication sentences using the × symbol

TUESDAY English - Design a WANTED poster for the Gingerbread Man. Make sure you use lots of adjectives to describe him.

Maths - White Rose Maths – I can use arrays

WEDNESDAY English - Sequence the story of The Gingerbread Man. Write short, snappy sentences to plan your story.

Maths - White Rose Maths – I know the 2 times-table

Creative Activity - Make stick puppets of the characters from The Gingerbread Man story. There are ones to print out and make below or you can draw your own. With a family member or on your own using different voices use the play script to act out the story.

THURSDAY English - Write your own version of the story. Include lots of description (adjectives, similes).

Maths - White Rose Maths – I know the 5 times-table

Creative Activity - The Gingerbread Man Mindfulness Colouring

FRIDAY - Review The Gingerbread Man Story. What did you like and dislike about the story? What was your favourite part of the story and why? Who would you recommend the story to? Complete the writing frame below or create your own!

Maths - Find the Numbers Reasoning about Multiplication

Creative Activity - Follow a recipe to make your own Gingerbread Men. Make your own Gingerbread Man using items that you find in your garden, house or on your daily walk. See below for some inspiration.

Maths -    Design a game to play that involves money

Science - Identify objects made of different materials that you can see in three different locations – from your seat, around your room and in the garden. Try to find things made from plastic, rock, metal, wood, fabric, paper, rubber, glass.  Are there more / less materials in one of the areas?

 

Please do not worry if you do not have a printer - you can write your answers on a piece of paper or in a book.

Week commencing 4th May 2020

 

Hello Year 2, Parents and Carers,

 

From this week, we will be changing the way that we present your home learning activities. We will be placing your activities into a weekly timetable, meaning that you will have tasks that need to be completed every day. These tasks will include Maths, English and a Foundation lesson every day.

 

It is also really important that you continue to read as much as possible at home too. This could be a book, suitable newspaper article, recipe, shopping list... 

 

Don't forget to log into Spelling Shed, SPAG.com and Times Tables Rockstars too. If you need your log in details, please email us on KS1@whitemoor.nottingham.sch.uk and we will send them to you.

English - Read through the PowerPoint all about VE Day. Then answer the questions in the Reading Comprehension. There are 3 levels of difficulty and answers are included.

Art - Design and make bunting for a VE Day Party. Can you be creative? Below there is a link to help with ideas.

English - Reading Comprehension. There are 3 levels of difficulty and answers are included.

Wednesday

 

PE - Start your day with PE with Joe Wicks on YouTube.

English - Reading Comprehension. There are 3 levels of difficulty and answers are included.

Music - Listen to VE Day music by artists such as Vera Lynn, Ella Fitzgerald, The Andrews Sisters and Benny Goodman on YouTube. Write down what you like and dislike about the music and draw the instruments you can hear.

PE - Start your day with PE with Joe Wicks on YouTube.

English - Write a Postcard to tell someone what you have been doing this week. There is a PowerPoint below that explains what a Postcard is and then a writing template. Design your own if you are feeling creative!

Design and Technology - Design and create some delicious snacks for a VE Street Party. Make sure you take lots of photos and send them into school or tag us on Twitter!

Additional Activities - PSHE Financial Education. Natwest have provided some great resources that teach the children all about Financial Education. Please find lesson plans, ideas and activities to try at home.

Hello, Year 2. Here are this week’s activities. Thank you to anyone who sent us a photo of last week’s work / activities completed. We really enjoyed looking at them. Keep them coming in !!!

 

General Tasks

English 
Activity 1 -  Please complete the attached reading comprehension.
Activity 2 – Pretend you are one of the characters from the text and write the  events from your point of view. Remember to add extra details about your thoughts and feelings as well as using your senses to include additional description. You will only be able to write about what your character will have seen and done.

Activity 3 – Create a new pet that has never been seen before and label with  adjectives and noun phrases to explain his looks (brown and white;
                   big, round, blue eyes)

and precise verbs / adverbs to describe how he moves (shuffles slowly).
Activity 4 – Using your picture and labels write a description of your pet. You should try to write different paragraphs for different sections eg one about his 
looks, one about the way he moves, one about what he likes to eat, one about where he likes to live
Activity 5 – Write a set of instructions to look after your pet. Remember to include a What You Need section as well as numbered steps that start with  imperative (bossy) verbs or time conjunctions ( firstly, next etc)

Science 

Complete the sentences on the attached sheet. Don’t worry if you can’t

print it out – you can always copy the picture and the sentence in your best handwriting into a book or onto a piece of paper.

You could also

  • Create a model or a mask of your newly designed pet
  • Rainbows have been a happy symbol during these times at home. Try and 'Grow  a Rainbow' with this experiment.

You will need kitchen towel, felt tip pens , two beakers of water.

1. Cut your kitchen towel into a rainbow shape

2. Colour a rainbow about 2cm long in both sides with your pens.

3. Dip the ends of the paper into the beakers of water and watch your rainbow grow

  • Create your own fishing lake using a bowl / bucket of water, objects that float and sink, string and a stick.
  • Draw the fish or the fox.
  • Research and learn a tribal dance.

Look at Jungle Animals Riddles powerpoint. Can you guess what each animal is?

Everyday think of a different animal and write your own riddle. Don’t forget...adjectives, HOBBS words and punctuation. 

PE

Do the Joe Wicks exercises 3 times this week. You can find the routines on Body Coach TV on You Tube

Art

Use the guides to have a go at drawing some jungle animals of your own. Ask a parent to upload a picture of it to our Twitter feed or Facebook - we'd love to see what you're up to!

Science

Create a poster to show what a plant needs to grow. You could upload these to Twitter or Facebook too.
