Week Beginning 20th July

Hello Year 2!

Well done for all your hard work learning at home this term! For our final week of the summer term, we are going to base our learning around a video clip called “Bubbles”, which starts off at the beach. We will also continue with our mapping skills from last week. Below are your tasks.

Remember if you have any questions about the work, please email ks1@whitemoor.nottingham.sch.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as possible

General everyday activities

Read everyday

Follow the home learning link to the PE and physical activity page

or complete the Joe Wicks PE sessions on You Tube.

Complete activities on TTRockstars, Spelling Shed and SPAG.com

Monday

English- Watch this animation called “Bubbles”:

https://www.literacyshed.com/bubbles.html#

How do does Gabby feel at the beginning, middle and end? Why?

Retell the story of the video to some one or write down notes. What happens in the beginning, middle and end?

Maths- Complete the sheet below (write the answers in your book if you do not have a printer). There are no videos this week but there is an answer sheet to check.

PSHE- At the start of the “Bubbles” film Gabby feels sad. On a piece of paper draw around a circular object 5 times to make 5 bubbles and cut them out. Draw or write 1 thing that can make you sad on each bubble. You may want to talk to an adult about your ideas. Now think about 5 things you could do to “pop” your sadness bubbles- what makes you happy? Who could you talk to or spend time with? What activities make you feel happy and relaxed? Does getting outside in the fresh air make you feel happy? Gabby felt happy at the end because she helped someone else- is there any one you could help? Now draw or write your ideas on the back of your bubbles.

Tuesday

English- Today you are going to plan your own story using the same structure as the “Bubbles” film you watched yesterday. Split a piece of paper into 3 sections for the beginning, middle and end of your story. Write notes and pictures in each section to show what happens in your story. Use the questions below to guide you.

Beginning: who is walking down the beach? How do they feel? What special object do they find (e.g. a shell)? What do they do to the object (e.g. put the shell to their ear and listen)?

Middle: Where does their object take them? What can they see? Hear? Smell? How do they feel?

End: When they return to the beach, who do they see? Where do they leave their object for the person to find? Where do they hide?

Save this plan for Thurday.

Maths- Complete the sheet below (write the answers in your book if you do not have a printer). There are no videos this week but there is an answer sheet to check.

Science- Find some different materials from around the house that you don’t mind getting wet e.g. toilet roll, foil, cloth. Design an experiment to see which is the most absorbent! Absorbent means it soaks up liquid. Have a look at the Powerpoint and sheet to help you.

Wednesday

English- Complete this lesson about using commas in a list correctly.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-and-use-commas-in-a-list

Maths- Complete the sheet below (write the answers in your book if you do not have a printer). There are no videos this week but there is an answer sheet to check.

Geography- Last week you were mapping your local area. This week you are going to play a memory game to map your country. Look at the map below for 10 seconds. Then without looking try and draw what you remember. Then check back- did you remember it correctly? Have another couple of goes only looking for 10 seconds each time. Now really look at the map closely- where are England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland? Can you see cities? Mountains? Rivers? Seas?

Now try copying the map as well as you can. It probably looks a lot better than your first drawing!

Thursday

English- Today you must write your own story based on the “Bubbles” film. Use your plan from Tuesday to help you. Try to include:

Capital letters and full stops

At least 3 paragraphs- beginning, middle, end

Adjectives

Commas in a list

Maths- Complete the sheet below (write the answers in your book if you do not have a printer). There are no videos this week but there is an answer sheet to check.

Art- Have a go at on of these beach art ideas. If you don’t have many resources, try the sun picture using pencil or pen instead of paint.

Friday

English- Read one of the texts below about beaches then answer the questions. They are in order from easiest to most difficult- choose the best one for you.

Maths- You have come to the end of your learning in Maths this year! How many of the questions from this Powerpoint can you answer? Remember to click the slideshow icon at the bottom right so you don’t see the answers straight away.

PSHE- In the “Bubbles” film Gabby travels to a new place and feels happy. Sometimes when we feel stressed or sad it can help to practise “visualisation”. Think of a happy place. It could be somewhere real or somewhere made up. Find somewhere quiet and relaxing. Lie down or sit cross-legged on the floor. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply. Imagine you are in your happy place. What can you see? What can you hear? What can you feel? When you have finished you may wish to describe your happy place to some one or draw a picture of it.

Have a wonderful summer holiday every one! We look forward to welcoming you back to school in September!
