Clap out rhythms- say your childs name and clap the syllables in the name i.e 'Mrs (mis sus) Bloggs' 3 claps. do your name and some objects around the house. let them give you a name for you to clap out.

Maths

Arrange up to 5 toys in a group. Count them with your child, moving and touching as they count them. How many are there? Gather them up and group them again. Ask are there still ...? The idea being, for your child to say the number without counting again and to recognise that, just because the objects moved the amount stays the same.

Practical activity

Make a creative picture from the Goldilocks story. They could draw the house or the bowls, chairs ,beds or bears. Maybe they could add Goldilocks. colour it in as carefully as you can. Any representation of this is good, as long as your child can tell you what they created,  dont worry at this stage that you cant tell what it is.

Have fun.

Practical activity

Can your child draw or paint Goldilocks and or the three bears? Can they show the different sizes of the bears?

Post pictures please we love to see them.

Our rhyme this week is;
Rain, rain go away.
Come again another day.
……. Wants to play.    ( add family members or toys name)
 Rain, rain go away.
There is an episode of Peppa Pig featuring this song here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r_09QTqBaA

Maths

In the Goldilocks story, the counting is all up to three. Count three teddies, bowls, chairs and beds in the house. Does your house have ‘more than three’ of any of those things? Don’t worry about how many more just concentrate on there being ‘more’

Practical activity

Draw a teddy shape on paper. Colour in, paint or stick bits on to create a teddy from Goldilocks’ story. Which bear did you create?
Post pictures on portfolios or messages on class dojo we love to see them. Have fun!

If you have the book goldilocks and the three bears, look through it with your child. Can they retell the story using the pictures? If not look at the link from yesterday, where I read it, and turn the volume down. Using the pictures as prompts, help your child to say what happened.

Maths

Using teddies and props from the kitchen, give each teddy a bowl and a spoon. Can they select a small, medium and large bowl? Use the vocabulary; small, medium and large and help your child to recognise which is which.

Practical activity

Use  a tray and some porridge, or other small cereal, or flour pour it into the tray. Your child can then use that tray to mark make with their finger. Can they make patterns and circles and lines? They might practice the first letter of their name or write some numbers. Let them explore and have fun.

Enjoy!

Our topic is favourite and traditional stories. This week we are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I read it to you here:

https://www.loom.com/share/e6d22f09dd6d4edb89d3e47450d522d7

Practical activity

Draw three different size bowls on some paper. Can your child put some sticky paper on to decorate them or colour them? They might be able to draw their own bowls.

Maths

Look at your child’s toys. Ask your child if they can sort them into piles of small medium and large. Help them to say which pile they think they belong in.

Please post pictures of your efforts on class dojos.

Congratulations to Sophia who got her home learning certificate today.

Read and enjoy together one of your child's favourite books. Can they retell  the story using the pictures to help them? Can they tell you why they like that story?

Maths

Watch the bbc numberblocks episode about the number five. Find it here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08d630h/numberblocks-series-1-five

Practical activity

Write a number five on a sheet of paper. Collect objects or toys and place them in groups of five. Colour five of something your child likes drawing.  If you have some crafty sticking things let them stick five of them to the paper and say the number five.

Remember to post pictures.

Have a good weekend with your families.

Thinking about the book ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ look at the end cover picture of the bear. Ask your child, ‘ What do you think would have happened if the family weren’t scared and ran away?’ Would the bear have been friendly? Do you think he could talk? What might he say? Do you think the bear was lonely or do you think he had a family? The aim of the questions is to encourage your child to ponder what might have happened next; to speak in sentences and to be imaginative in their responses. if no responses come don’t panic. Help your child by giving some ideas

Maths

If you have some dominoes. Play a matching domino game with your child. Encourage your child to recognise the pattern of the dots on the domino. A dice from a board game will work if you don’t have dominoes. Or, if you have none of these, write dots in the dice pattern up to five.  Help your child to recognise the pattern the ultimate aim is for your child to say the amount without the need to count the spots.

Practical activity

As the weather has been drier collect some natural objects from outside. Small twigs, dried leaves, flowers etc. Arrange them (sort) into collections. If you have glue and paper stick them on to make a lovely natural collage.

Post pictures on portfolios or messages on class dojo we love to see them. Have fun!

On Thursday it is world book day. Normally, we would ask the children to come in their favourite book character costume. As most of the children are working from home we didn’t think we could do that. So we will do that when all the children return after 8th March. It gives you time to make a costume or maybe they will be in the sale after Thursday in the supermarkets. Please don’t go out to buy one especially, but I know a lot of the children will have some form of dressing up that can be a character from a book. So, to clarify no dressing up this Thursday we will do it in a few weeks.

Home Learning Wednesday 24th February 2021 remember its well being Wednesday so have fun.

RWI

Rhyme of the week

Teddy bear Teddy bear turn around.

Say or sing this rhyme with your child. It is on you tube here:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu_n94Wp3rg

Maths

Get small groups of toys or objects and just encourage your child to count them by touching and counting them carefully. Only go up to five. I know it is tempting to go higher and that’s fine but what we really want in F1 (nursery) is for the children to be secure with all of the concepts of numbers to five.

Practical activity

Make an imaginary world with their own toys. Can they use their figures to make up a story? Can you help them to add detail into their play? ‘The baby was crying because he didn’t like the bear cave.’, ‘The mummy said shall we have a picnic instead of going into the cave?’. Encourage your child to sequence events in their play.

Post pictures we love to see.

Home learning for Tuesday 23rd February 2021

RWI

From the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' see if your child can sequence the events of where the family went in order. They could either tell you the different places or draw them.

Maths

Using the number line from yesterday, go through the order of the numbers. Ask what number comes next? Help your child to say the numbers showing the visual prompt of the line. Go through the order of the numbers by clapping them as you say them. Use opportunities to count throuhout the day. How many socks do you have? I've only got one sock. How many more do you need to get dressed?

Practical activity

Make a simple map of the areas in the story. This could be using creative bits and pieces or drawing or painting.

Please post pictures. We love to see them.

Home Learning for Monday 22nd February 2021

Hello Everyone. I hope you had a nice break at home.

Our topic this half term is Favourite Stories. We will reread stories that were popular and introduce ones we know you have loved at home or at the library.

RWI

Today I read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury. The children loved this story and children who were here since September may remember it and join in with the actions. If not please watch it and enjoy it. The link is here:

https://www.loom.com/share/76a79d03da1b4da9972ad95d5a60af2e

Get your teddy to sit with you and you can enjoy this together.

Practical activity

Using your teddy can you retell the story to your grown up or act it out with your dolls or figures?
Can you use any toys you may have to make one of the scenes? You may have a farm set. If so you could use the trees to make the forest.

Maths activity

0    1    2    3    4    5

Write a number line to five for your child. Show them the numbers and let them point to and say them if they are able. Put zero in, but say we don’t start counting from zero,  we need to know where it is on our number line. Make a fist. Show them zero is equal to nothing ‘no sweets’

Please write the numerals 2 and 3 for your child. Can they match their toys or small objects to the number? You could write dots under the number so your child can count them to tell them what the number is. Show them where the numbers are in the number line. Don’t make a big deal of this. At this stage the children don’t need to know this but it will help them to see numbers in relation to each other.

Post photos on class dojo messaging or portfolios. We love to see them.

Environmental print

When you are out and about or even in your home cupboards. Point out signs to your child. You will be surprised how they recognise the logos on familiar things. This could be supermarket labels - Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco etc. If you have shop brand items in your cupboard, can your child spot the logo? Sweet labels? Fizzy juice in cans? McDonalds, KFC? There are lots of potential labels and logos they might recognise. If they don’t then start to refer to these labels when you see them.

Practical Activity

If you have some paint, can you cut some shapes into some cut up potato? Your child can then dip the cut potato into the paint and make some printing. If you have two colours of paint they can make a ‘two step pattern’ i.e red, blue, red, blue.

If you do not have paint, can you give two colour crayons and do a pattern on paper. If this proves easy and your child can tell you what colour will come next, then offer three colours and make a pattern with the three colours.

Number

Positional Language- get a box and a small toy.

Ask your child to place the toy  on the box, (on top, above) under the box, inside the box, next to the box, behind and in front of the box. Can they then tell you where to place the toy?

Have fun with your learning! Post on dojo please. We are loving seeing all that you post and I’m sending monster points home to reward your child for doing work at home. Later when we return to nursery we will have a small treat for the child who gets the most monster points either at home, or school or both.

Have a lovely week with your child. There will be no home learning next week as it is half term. I will look forward to hearing from you after the half term break.

All the staff wish you a safe and happy holiday break. x

Using the book, ‘The Gruffalo’s child’ by Julia Donaldson if you have it (or any of your child’s own well loved books) go through the book together. Can you child talk about the pictures? Can they describe the characters? Are they able to retell the story in a simple form using the pictures as clues to help them?

Practical Activity

Can they draw their favourite part of the book?

Number

If you made playdough, yesterday, then you can use it today to help you to measure. Roll the play dough into worms. Can you make a longer worm than me? Can you make a shorter worm than me? Lay out the worms and see if you can say which is the shortest or longest?

If you do not have playdough, then use your toys. Cars, lorries, trains, blocks, figures etc. can be lined up next to each other and compared. You could get your socks and compare the length.

Have fun with your learning! Post on dojo please. We are loving seeing all that you post and I’m sending monster points home to reward your child for doing work at home.

Later when we return to nursery we will have a small treat for the child who gets the most monster points either at home, or school or both.

Home learning for Wednesday February 10th 2021

It is well being Wednesday, where we try to not use screens in the afternoon. If you would like to do the RWI part of this on Thursday feel free. Maybe share a book together instead.

I have recorded a Fred talk lesson to sound out CVC words from pictures. Please support you child with this oral blending. You can watch it here:

https://www.loom.com/share/8ae951dfe5b74a3c9ab6f7af41bb3e9b

Number

Using your own toys, can you get four toys out? Can you see how many different ways you can separate them into two groups? 0 and 4, 1 and 3, 2 and 2? let your child mix them up for instance 3 and 1.  Ask does it matter? Are there still four altogether? How many is 0? As there are no toys in that group it will help to reinforce the concept of 0.

Practical Activity

If you have some playdough please use this to make some, or one, animal fom the book-The Gruffalo's Child. Add features like eyes, nose mouth and ears. Either stick things in such as little twigs or add features out of playdough. Have fun and post pictures please.

Hopefully you have enjoyed The Cat in the Hat, it is one of my favourite stories that I read to my own children. There are other stories and adventures you can find about Cat, for starters there is `Jumping on the Moon – The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about that!` on you tube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btbWukeyim4

Number

We have done lots of work on numbers 1 to 5, keep doing this everyday, use a dice for todays work. Throw the dice and see how quickly you can say the number. To start with your child may need to count the dots but will then learn to recognise the pattern of the dots as they do it more often. Hopefully you will have a dice in a game at home you can use but if not draw the patterns of numbers 1 to 6 on separate pieces of paper. Then show the pieces one at a time.

Activity

I am sure you have all heard about Captain Sir Tom Moore who inspired the UK in 2020 when he set out to walk 100 lengths of his garden before turning 100 to raise money for the NHS. What could you challenge yourself to do 100 of? You could walk the length of your garden 100 times (you could walk it 10 times each day for 10 days), cycle or skip. Share your challenge with us!

I look forward to seeing your ideas!

Can you make these shapes with pencils? A square has four sides so how many pencils will you need to make a square? Are all the pencils the same size?

Activity

The original book was written in 1957 so I think that Cat is ready for a new look. Design a new hat for Cat in the Hat. Use repeating patterns in your design, the repeating pattern in his old hat is red and white. You can cut strips out, colour or paint, it is your choice.

Ask your child if they can tell you what they remember about ‘The Gingerbread Man’ story. What is the rhyme the Gingerbread Man says as he runs?

‘Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.'

Now we are going to learn a new song with a different version of this rhyme. 5 gingerbread men lying on a tray.

Are they able to describe why they think an object person is taller? They might say ‘they are bigger’ or make hand movements to show the difference. They might not be able to tell you.
